Recurve Bow
Archery, as we all know, dates way back to the 1800s. Bow hunting can be traced through many regions around the world, including Asia, Europe, and North America. The true skilled archery men were believed to be the Native Americans. The bows of the Native Americans were very simple and basic. It was their exceptional ability to stalk within very close range of their prey, that helped them overcome their lack of equipment and be successful. Its that ability to get close to our prey that remains the essence of all bow hunting today.
Since the 1800s archery bows in general have come a long way. The bows used in the early days are now considered traditional bows. We have since moved into a more mechanical sense of bow hunting with the invention of the Compound Bow and the Crossbow. Between the three bows, the compound bow is by far the most popular bow today for hunting and target shooting.
In this article, I would like to stay traditional, and drill in on the aspects of the bow that has gotten us to where we are today. There are two types of traditional bows on the market, the longbow and the recurve bow, both are considered traditional with very specific difference that set them apart. Lets take them one at a time.
The Longbow:
The longbow has long, nearly straight limbs that form an arch when the bow is strung. The length of a longbow is usually equal to the height of the user, although, there are some that like them longer. This type of bow is not intended to support equipment of any kind, such as a bow sight or release, this in turn keeps the bow light weight and easy to carry. One thing to keep in mind, a long bow does not have a lot of shooting power, which will require the archer to be closer to his or her target. Hence the Native Americans were so good at stalking their prey. The longbow is an excellent choice for those wanting to stay traditional with limited, or no equipment.
The Recurve Bow:
The recurve bow is also considered traditional, but with a few of today's modern upgrades. This type of bow has shorter limbs then the longbow, and they curve back away from the belly of the bow, when the bow is strung, thus causing it to have more shooting power.
The Recurve Bow features a more modern touch with a "pistol style" grip, which adapts well for use with a bow sight or arrow rest. The Recurve is a much smoother, quieter and faster shooting bow then the longbow, which makes it a popular choice among many.
For an archer choosing to shoot traditional bows, he or she is also choosing simplicity when it comes to equipment. There is very little one can add to a traditional bow to help aid in accuracy and precision, because of this lack of equipment, shooting a traditional bow will require a great deal of dedication and practice to master.
While these challenges may be too great for some, many find that they add to the pleasure of hunting. Bow hunting is a unique emotional experience because you are so close to the game. Getting back to basics, helps us to appreciate where we have been and to appreciate as well, how far this industry has come.

Modern Japanese business practice has been very influenced by Europe and North America. However to a large extent but still retains some traditionally Japanese practices. Below we introduce you to some of the more pertinent concepts and what they mean.
"(O)jigi", or bowing in English, is probably the feature of Japanese etiquette that is best-known through media and TV. Bowing is considered extremely important in Japan, so much so that, although children normally begin learning how to bow from a very young age, companies commonly provide training to their employees in how to execute bows correctly Basic bows are performed with the back straight and the hands at the sides (boys and men) or clasped in the lap (girls and women), and with the eyes down. Bows originate at the waist. Generally, the longer and deeper the bow, the stronger the emotion and the respect expressed. Bows can be generally divided into three main types: informal, formal, and very formal. Informal bows are made at about a fifteen degree angle and more formal bows at about thirty degrees. Very formal bows are deeper.
"Meishi" are the Japanese equivalent of business cards. They have a special meaning and to receive a business card without due care and attention can be seen as a personal slight. The correct way to present meishi is hold at the top corners with the lettering facing the person receiving the card. The receiver should then take the card by both lower corners, read it carefully and place it somewhere safe. When exchanging meishi the individual of lower status will pass their card first, and the individual of higher status will pass their card second.
"Keigo" is a polite style of Japanese used frequently in business when talking to superiors. Keigo (literally "respectful speech") is used to show respect or humility in the face of people you are unfamiliar with. It is often not taught in schools or at home so many businessmen receive lessons when they enter a company.
"Uchi/Soto" means, roughly, Inner/Outer and refers to your relationship with a particular group. In Japan status is conferred not only vertically, i.e. superior and subordinate, but also horizontally, i.e. those with whom you are familiar and those with whom you are not. The group dynamic is a very important one and when you first meet anyone you will immediately take up the position of outsider, soto, even if you are from different branches of the same company or work in the same field. You should understand the distance that you are shown as a sign of respect, and not think that your hosts are being cold to you. The position of soto does have some advantages over that of insider, uchi, for instance you are given more leeway in your behaviour and are not expected to follow the same strict rules as someone who is uchi.
Silence is very important in Japan. Though you may feel uncomfortable, try to analyse what sort of a silence it is, whether it is a respectful silence or an upset silence. There is a definite connection between silence and wisdom. The Japanese character for Knowledge combines the characters for losing and mouth, which goes to show that the Japanese consider people wise who refrain from speaking. As the old proverb goes, "better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove any doubt".
Gifts in Japan are given to show appreciation of a favour done for you or to establish a sound business or personal relationship. Gifts should be something from your country and of a reasonably high quality, preferably with a special significance to your company or local area and not made in Asia. Gifts should be wrapped in "business colours" like dark greens, greys, blues and browns, but avoid white as it symbolises death. Gifts should be given and received with both hands, as with meishi. Remember that to your business partners the gift you give and the way that you give it reveal a lot about your character and your attitude towards business.
Meals in Japan traditionally begin with the phrase "itadakimasu" (literally, "I receive"). The phrase is similar to the phrase "bon appétit," or grace, used in the case of some individuals, at every meal. It is said to express gratitude for all who had a part in preparing the food, and in cultivating, ranching or hunting edible food of plants and animals.

Employing drop away arrow rests
I had listened a lot about these broadheads and I have to tell that the figure too genuinely fascinated my attention so decided to grant them a test. I have to tell you that I was actually propelled with the operation and I would state that they emphatically live up to the wild refer. A few of the hunters that I make out had expended them and from every reports they were pretty glad with what they ascertained as well.
I was reasonably certain that from the seem of them that they would have skillful flying device characteristics and boy did they of all time fly reliable. It was identical shooting with my field tips, I had select accuracy and that is really the most crucial matter when it follows to bow tracking down. The effectualness of the broadhead is useless if you dont attain the object and these broadheads wont let down you in that view.
When the broadhead gains the mark that is when the trick materializes. They have a Piston Hammer that deploys the blades on impingement. There are no cams or levers which I find is just because they can a great deal betray. These affairs exercised every single time. The Trophy Ridge Meat Seekers are true to the mention because they move through the animal incurring the track of least immunity past bones and this interprets to amended penetration. Cozier incursion signifies that the ability to induce a impeccable pass-through is elevated and blood exit is maximized. This manner you have a amended kill proportion, not to cite the fact that it will be much cozier to trail the animal once you mark a strike.
The construction of the broadhead is of hard stainless steel that is heat-treated for summed potency. These score for a very intense, very durable broadhead. Nobody wishes to view a broken broadhead and you wont with these beauties. The vanes will release forward hence that they can be taken easily from the object which is a decent feature, but at the same time they stick included in the quiver, which is as well very genuine.
How they Process
The head is revolving and the grooved tip subdues the skimming and wind resistance to almost cipher. Escape is supreme with these broadheads. Once you strike the mark with these, the tip enters and the piston cylinder settled behind the point strikes forward and admits the blades to enlarge from the rear. At this spot the tip is entering the prey and the vanes are spreading up in full. Ahead the vanes go into the mark they are fully spread, and they are locked up in place. This thinks of that the cutting diameter is wider without blocking the flying of the arrow. The fully deployed vanes entail that the wound channel is grander and that the bleeding is increased. Because there is minute expiration of propelling vitality the finds of the arrow passing right through the aim is elevated and this will genuinely step-up the blood trail. They have a grand non-barbed contrive which entails that the blades will release ahead alleviating simplified removal from the animal.

Several years ago, Tru Glo inc. released the Apex Gear line of accessories. The Apex line of sights represents Tru-Glo’s many years of experience in producing top quality, user friendly bow sights. Two of these sights in particular are designed with the bow hunter in mind.
The Apex Nitrus is the first of these available in four and six pin versions as well as .029 or .019 fiber sizes to suit any situation that a bow hunter might encounter. Another feature that is new on the Nitrus four pin sight is the absence of red pins. The alternating green and yellow pins stay visible in the woods for a much longer period of time. The Nitrus is also available with several adjustment options that include standard dovetails, micro adjustment capabilities, and a micro adjustable sight with a 5 inch removable sight bar.
The other sight from Apex is the Atomic. This sight is available in one, four, and six pin configurations to suit any archer’s needs. It is available in both pin sizes as well. The unique feature of the atomic is a rotating sight bar that makes for one of the largest amounts of elevation adjustment in the industry.
This pair of sights also boasts aluminum construction for extreme durability, pins that protect the fiber optic in a cradle of aluminum, glow in the dark aiming ring, and comes standard with a purple haze light to ensure you will be able to see your pins when the trophy of a lifetime steps into your shooting lane. One of these top quality sights from Apex Gear would be a perfect match for your hunting rig.

Whitetail season is now officially over in Illinois. The stands are packed away and the layers of late season gear are back in their scent free totes, and its time to transition to the next season. Throw away the scent free shampoo and hang up the rattling antlers. In only a couple months it will be time to fill the pre-dawn woods with the hoot of the barred owl in pursuit of turkeys!
In preparation for the season, I've stripped my bow down and am beginning to start the tuning process all over again. I've turned the poundage as low as my bow can handle and have switched to a full containment rest due to the possibility of having to put a stalk on a strutting tom. The lower poundage allows the hunter to stay stable at full draw for a longer period of time which is vital to bow hunting turkeys. They seem to never stand still for more than a split second and when they do their often at an awkward angle.
Along with the decrease in poundage, a different broadhead can be utilized. Archery turkey hunters usually turn to large diameter mechanicals. These heads leave room for error when shooting at on the go turkey. They will also loose energy quickly when hitting your target. A hunter is better off shooting a bird and the bird running off with the arrow in the bird than blowing right through. With the arrow still in, the blades are still cutting if the bird runs off. Chasing birds with archery equipment is best suited for hunting out of a ground blind. To prepare, the hunter should always practice shooting out of the blind from a seated position. As funny as it sounds, sitting in a chair in a small enclosed blind is a challenge especially with another hunter and camera in the blind. Chasing spring turkeys is a blast and a heck of challenge for a bow, but with some practice and preparation you can not only have fun hunting these beautiful birds, but also be successful.
Bear Archery

I am looking into buying a bow, and I noticed that this (http://www.buy.com/prod/bear-archery-kodiak-cub-recurve-bow/q/loc/17250/205809153.html) one has two "sizes". What do the #10 and #20 refer to?
Also, in your opinion, is this a good bow for an amateur? If not, can you make some other suggestions? I want a normal (not compound) bow under $200..
Thanks!
Elfin is correct.
That #10 means it takes ten pounds of force pulling backward on the string to pull it back 24".
That's a bow suitable for a very small child and nothing more. It's not good for the average beginner. That price is astronomical for children's bows, too. If you bought it, you'd probably get a week of use out of it before you put it up for sale and went for a heavier bow. My nephew started off at 20 pounds when he was 8 and was up to a 30 pounder within a month.
If you're over 13 and not anemic, you'll want to start with a 25-35 pound draw on average. Even first timer women can easily draw those with the correct instruction.
Don't buy new! New means "I have lots of excess cash to blow so everyone toss their overpriced crap my way". You can buy a year old bow on Ebay and pay 1/4 the price.
You....new to archery and all....go to Ebay and pick up any Bear fiberglass recurve you find in the 25-35 pound range. Don't pay over $30. Price does NOT equate to quality!

Try those two bows for a few days/weeks and see if you like archery enough to invest in a more expensive bow later on. You won't be out much cash and you'll get months or years of enjoyment out of them.
